For patients affected by developmental disorders, connective tissue conditions, cardiovascular disease, cancer predisposition, or rare genetic disorders, receiving a diagnosis often raises more questions than answers. Genetic counseling provides the knowledge, guidance, and support needed to help patients and families understand their health, inheritance patterns, and future risks.
At MD Genetic Clinic, genetic counseling is led by a board-certified MD Geneticist - ensuring that patients not only receive expert counseling but also direct medical expertise in testing, interpretation, and treatment planning.
We provide compassionate, patient- and family-centered care, integrating the most up-to-date medical genetics knowledge and advanced genomic testing. Genetic counseling at MD Genetic Clinic is designed to:
Clarify complex genetic results and what they mean for your health.
Help families understand inheritance patterns and recurrence risks.
Provide guidance on medical management and preventive care.
Offer emotional support and connect families with community resources.
We also serve as a resource for other healthcare professionals seeking guidance on genetic conditions across Florida.
Genetic counseling services are available to all patients in Florida, whether or not they already have a diagnosis. We see individuals with:
Neurodevelopmental conditions – autism, developmental delay, intellectual disability, epilepsy.
Connective tissue and cardiovascular conditions – Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, aortopathies, arrhythmias, cardiomyopathies.
Cancer predisposition syndromes – including BRCA-related cancers and hereditary colon cancer.
Rare or undiagnosed conditions – patients seeking answers when the cause of their medical concerns remains unclear.
A typical genetic counseling session at MD Genetic Clinic may include:
Discussing your medical history and goals for evaluation.
Reviewing your family history and prior genetic testing.
Explaining how genes may contribute to your symptoms or diagnosis.
Educating about inheritance and risks for relatives.
Addressing recurrence risks for future pregnancies.
Providing emotional support and connecting you to support groups.
Coordinating referrals to additional specialists as needed.
If genetic testing is recommended, we explain the benefits, limitations, and next steps, assist with insurance pre-authorization, and provide follow-up counseling to review results in detail.
MD Genetic Clinic primarily operates through telemedicine, making genetic counseling accessible to patients throughout Florida. Saliva kits are mailed directly to patients’ homes for testing. In-person visits are available at our Bradenton office if needed.
This flexibility ensures that you receive comprehensive care without the stress of long travel.
