At MD Genetic Clinic, diagnosis may involve:
Comprehensive physical exam – assessing skin texture, wound healing, and joint flexibility.
Family history review – looking for patterns that suggest a genetic condition.
Genetic testing – to confirm the diagnosis and identify the type of EDS.
Not all cases have a detectable genetic mutation; in those situations, we rely on established clinical criteria
Management is tailored to each patient and may include:
Skin protection with sunscreen and gentle skincare.
Physical therapy to strengthen muscles and stabilize joints.
Bracing or supports for unstable joints.
Avoiding high-impact sports, heavy lifting, and contact activities.
We also coordinate care with cardiologists, orthopedists, ophthalmologists, and other specialists when needed.
With the right care plan, most people with EDS can enjoy daily activities while minimizing injury risk. Ongoing follow-up visits help us adjust treatment as your needs change.
