At MD Genetic Clinic, we follow a structured evaluation based on the 2017 International Classification and Diagnostic Criteria for EDS. Our process includes:
Detailed Medical History – Reviewing your personal and family medical history for signs of connective tissue disorders.
Physical Examination – Performing a comprehensive clinical exam with emphasis on connective tissue features.
Beighton Hypermobility Scoring – Assessing joint hypermobility using standardized scoring.
Assessment of Associated Features – Identifying systemic signs such as skin hyperextensibility, easy bruising, poor wound healing, or vascular features.
Review of Imaging and Lab Tests – Coordinating imaging (echocardiogram, MRI, CT) and labs when indicated.
Application of 2017 EDS Criteria – Using internationally accepted guidelines to classify the subtype of EDS.
Because EDS affects multiple systems, we coordinate care across specialties:
Cardiology – Referral for echocardiogram and vascular imaging when indicated.
Ophthalmology – Eye examination to evaluate for retinal and connective tissue complications.
Orthopedics & Physical Therapy – Support for joint instability, pain management, and rehabilitation.
Other Specialists – As appropriate for gastrointestinal, neurological, or dermatological concerns.
